Economic Development

Economic Development is one of our Sorority’s Five-Point Programmatic Thrust. Under the leadership of several national presidents, economic development has taken on many forms. Initially, economic development focused on job opportunities, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is “breaking new ground” in response to the economic climate of the nation.

Programs initiated under Economic Development include: The Job Opportunity Project
which begun in 1941, employment and training programs, Adopt-A-Black Business, Delta Habitat for Humanity, Financial Fortitude, The Delta Challenge: Homeownership Delta H.O.M.E. (Home Ownership Maintenance and Education), and entrepreneurship. Economic Development will continue to grow and change in response to cultural and economic developments.

The St. Louis Alumnae Chapter’s Economic Committee creates comprehensive programming through seminars and presentations to address financial management, economic empowerment, and business ownership for the Chapter and communities in the St. Louis area. We have created programs for teens and adults.
